“GRAFF: the art & technique of GRAFFITI” - SCAPE Martinez

What if “Graffiti Art” didn’t raise eyebrows in your art class? What if “Graffiti” wasn’t viewed as a problem, but a solution to the problems, that it wasn’t the question, but it was the answer.

This book is the first step in the new journey to change the paradigm, and answer some of those “why” questions. Graffiti was once viewed as merely a blemish on the urban landscape, but graffiti has evolved into a legitimate art form in its own right, influencing the worlds of fine art, entertainment, advertising, and fashion. This book is more than just an art instructional. It is filled with insights and clues to the authors journey, and in sharing that journey, you will discover your own voice. Step by step, Scape lays out the philosophies and realities of the genre. From picking a "tag" and developing letterforms, to the logistics of prepping a wall and working a spray can in a painterly fashion. You will understand the fundamental elements of graffiti letters, characters, and backgrounds and how they rock together. “GRAFF” will help you find your voice, develop your style and start to leave your mark.

“GRAFF II: next level GRAFFITI techniques” - SCAPE Martinez

Once you learned how to walk, then you realized you must learn how to run! You had your style all figured out, until you realized you didn’t.

The first book “GRAFF” was so popular, we had to come back with a new study, a deeper, more complex study of letterforms and all the features that made “GRAFF” a bestseller. Where the first book discussed the basics, this book begins to unwrap and disassemble all those concepts to reveal new truths adding a few twists and turns along the way.

“GRAFF: COLORMASTER freestyle color techniques for GRAFFITI art” - SCAPE Martinez

Once you learned THE RULES, then it’s time to break the rules! explore some elevated ideas and techniques, LEARN HOW TO BREAK THE FORM.

The previous three books were so popular, we had to come back with this new study, a more complex study of both letterforms and color theories as well as jumping from walls to canvas. Where the previous books contained focused themes, topics, and the basics, here we look at breaking things up, and freeing yourself up from the rigid form. This is going freestyle where you don’t need a sketch, and you improvise in the true sense of the word, exploring creative risks and challenging yourself both on the wall as well as in the studio.

“GRAFF: COLOR WORKBOOK” - SCAPE Martinez

NOT A COLORING BOOK, BUT SOMETHING CLOSE. FOCUS AND EXPLORE RELAXING YOUR BRAIN, AND IMPROVE IT’S FUNCTION.

Sometimes we can look at Graffiti Art and wonder about all it’s complexities. And truthfully there is a lot of ground to cover and explore, but in this book we approach things from a different angle. Filled with black and white outlines, color theory, and letter studies, you can create various color experiments. Also, it is noted that coloring relieves stress, enhances mindfulness, and improves mood. .

All of these books were individual pieces to a larger conversation. I consider each book to be a work of art. All through my journey people would ask “how”, as in “how do you do that?”, or “why”, as in “why did you do that?”. These books are my attempts to answer those questions. Whether doing graffiti in the streets, or working on canvas in my studio, the questions would linger on in my head. Graffiti writing has always been equally at times a passion, an obsession, and yet a craft to try and perfect. These books are my efforts to share my views about these concepts, to share with those who want to know more about the artform, from my perspective.

“These books are able to go to places that I never could, reach people I could never reach, and inspire those that I will never meet.”
